CAIRO , September 6, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) – Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that anti-Islamism must be treated as a crime against humanity just like anti-Semitism, the Turkish daily Zaman reported on Tuesday, September 6.
Addressing the sixth meeting of the Eurasian Islamic Council meeting in Istanbul Monday, September 5, Erdogan said his government has added an article to the declaration in the European Council regarding Islamophobia stipulating that anti-Islamism be accepted as a crime against humanity.
He also urged the Muslim scholars to do their utmost efforts to clear misconceptions associating Islam and Muslims with terrorism.
“We struggle against the spread of the misconception of Islam in all international meetings we attend,” Erdogan said.
“This meeting will be nothing more than a tourist holiday if you just come here, talk and then go on your own way; however, we want to yield fruits from this meeting within the Eurasian geography.”
